Nothing Phone 2A: Best Budget Phone?

Design & Build Quality

Nothing Phone 2A boasts a sleek and modern design that captivates at first glance. It comes with a plastic body. The plastic build is a bummer for many people but this build is good for durability. The plastic back scratches very easily, so keep that in mind. It has 3 LED lights on the back. It works for Notifications and Cameras. Many people don’t like the back of Nothing Phones. So If you don’t like it try to ignore it, because the rest of the phone is pretty good. It has an IP54 rating for some water splashes and dust protection.

Display

The issue in this budget is a smaller display. But the Nothing Phone 2A offers a 6.7-inch Big AMOLED Display with 120 Hz, HDR10+ supported. The resolution is 1080x2412px. Which is slightly better than 1080p. This phone had even bezel all the way around. It is a 1B colors supported display with a Peak brightness of 1300 nits. Not the brightest thing in the world. But It is very bright in the outdoors. The aspect ratio is 20:1:9 with 394ppi. And it even has 2160 Hz PWM dimming. So the display is almost Flagship.

Camera

It comes with two lenses in the rear camera. The main lens is 50 MP, f/1.9, 1/1.56″, PDAF, OIS, and we got an Ultra wide angle: 50 MP, f/2.2, 114-degree, 1/2.76″, 0.64µm. The front camera is 32 MP, f/2.2, (wide), 1/2.74″. The camera quality is not so good. Especially against Pixel, it is nothing. But the Nothing Phone had done its homework, and made it a little bit better than its predecessor. Those who are not into the flagship-level camera at this price should go for Nothing Phone (2a). It is an ok camera. In the video segment Rear camera seems good with 4K@30fps, 1080p@60/120fps, and gyro-EIS. The front camera can support up to 1080p@60fps. It is not good for vlogging, 4K support in The front camera would be nice.

Performance & OS

Here is the catch. The Nothing Phone 2A comes with Mediatek Dimensity 7200 Pro (4 nm): Octa-core (2×2.8 GHz Cortex-A715 & 6x 2.0 Cortex-A510); Mali-G610 MC4. It is different from other Snapdragon phones. Only time will tell how much it can support you in the long run. But they compared it with Nothing Phone 1. Which comes with a Snapdragon 778G Plus from Qualcomm. And Dimensity 7200 Pro is a better processor than 778G Plus. At this point, we are not expecting Flagship level performance. But the performance of the phone is pretty respectable and smooth. And with the Nothing OS 2.5, it performed even smoother. The device can handle most of the tasks pretty smoothly. So no need to worry about the MediaTek processor. On the other hand, the Nothing OS is clean and bloatware-free. It had some characters with icons, texts, and widgets. It is so clean and smooth that you will feel it everywhere on your phone.

Battery  & Charging

It comes with a Big 5000mAh battery, with up to 45W wired charging. It’s bigger than Nothing Flagship phones. And it is the biggest strength of this device. A good battery comes from a large physical battery, good software, and an efficient chip. And the Nothing Phone 2A nailed it all. It can charge 50% in 23 min, and 100% in an hour. But it doesn’t have wireless charging.

Conclusion

The Nothing Phone 2a offers competitive value compared to its pricier sibling. Nothing Phone 2a maintains a unique design and consistent user experience. Despite its small portfolio, Nothing’s commitment to design and performance shines through, making the Nothing Phone 2a a standout option in its price range. The Mediatek chip should support good performance in the long run. The software is clean and well-optimized for longer support.
